WordCamp Sydney 2012

Well, WordCamp Sydney was great!  two days of great networking with WordPress developers and a bunch of informative presentations.

I made the trek up with Rob Jennings, of Explainafide, and met a bunch of lovely and highly talented folk along the way.

Highlights

  • I had my name drawn out of the hat for the major prize: a managed VPS from Anchor Hosting worth over $2000!! It comes at a great time – I’ve been looking to upgrade my offering for a while!
  • AND – I won WordPress Jeopardy! Fun and games on Sunday – we all needed a gentle start :) I scored 5 licenses for the awesome WP-Touch Pro from Brave New  Code. Thanks!

  • Get paid what you’re worth.

A great talk on managing client expectations and finances for the freelancer. The most practical takeaways from the weekend, thanks Troy Dean. Its worth finding his talk from WordCamp Brisbane, too.

  • The High Performance Guide to WordPress

A great overview of the inner workings of the web, in particular how Nginx serves pages compared to Apache, by Jeff Waugh.

The sense of community was fantastic! Thanks in particular to the organisers: Dee Teal, Tracey Kemp, Peter BuiAlison Van Hees. I can’t wait for the next WordCamp Melbourne, Feb 2013!
